L'orto in spiaggia - self-sufficient Fornillo Beach

Zucchini, squash, basil and tomatoes, next to the odd banana tree they are growing next to the wet spots in the sand, that is near the showers
Lining the Fornillo beach, and behind the beach huts and beach bars, you will find quite a variety of ... vegetables, vines and herbs. Squash and zucchini plants are even lining the blue-white painted wooden walls and balconies of the beach bars and creep up the bright blue poles stuck into the sandy parts of the beach.
The broad squash leaves provide welcome shade to the less sun-resistent herbs, here it is basil
So handy to harvest - basil, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, even mint. In a few natural caves that look as if they have been cut into the stone wall above which thrones Fornillo, zucchini plants take equally well. But why not go and see for yourselves. It seems this is a very unique characteristic of this beach, Fornillo, while Spiaggia Grande is lined by a few pots of herbs, and the odd banana tree growing near the showers in the sandy mud, but for the rest some spots are home to colorful seasonal flowers.
Mint and basil are growing together, lined with stone bordures, barely shaded by vines and banana shrubs, and oleanders
Plant pockets apply green patches to the rocks lining the beach, sometimes they are filled with squash or herbs
Blue poles serve as support for squash ..
