Positano purple selection: Favorite summer flower views

A bright backdrop to white-washed walls in Positano: Petunia flowering in September
Purple adds these colorful touches, so what would Positano look like without them? I am referring to the colors of three typical flowers that grow here in Positano - all of them are connected to summer, their peak times are July-mid-September: Petunia, morning glory and bougainvillea. So here is a leisurel stroll to discover the typical summer color here in Positano with regard to flowers: it is contrasting with the grey-brown mountains which form the backdrop to the village, and the thousand shades of blue where sky and sea merge into each other. So here I make a mental note: these three flowering plants are certainly part of the 10 or so that make up a typcial Positano garden.
Here it is petunia and further below, bougainvillea that provide the bright spots of color to this view towards Praiano (Via Pasitea)
A large portion of Via Mulini leading down to the Chiesa Madre is covered by a pergola spanning the road, from bougainvillea plants reaching out from the two gardens bordering upon the alley. They form a protecting roof of purple leaves above the alley (it is not bougainvillea flowers, they are the tiny white ones shrouded by the purple leaves), where and when wisteria is not doing the job.

I love houses clad in purple bougainvillea, and there is one example of a hotel facade here in Positano that is entirely wrapped in by its purple leaves, Hotel Pasitea. Again, they are now at their second "bloom" of the year, and here in Positano, the bouganivllea upper leaves turn purple again if pruned properly by late July.

Where Via Pasitea starts, just aboveValle dei Mulini, but also further above the Fornillo beach, you'll discover terracotta pot after pot planted with purple petunia.

In summer ,a substantial part of Via Mulini, leading down to the beach, is shaded by the lush bougainvillea plants, you can see their strong stems in the foreground
And again, purple is the color of choice when it comes to the creepers - rampants that grow in the gardens of Fornillo, including the wild and unkempt green parts of a narrow sort of graben valley leading down towards the beach next to where the Grotta di Fornillo starts. Here you can stop and look down from Via Pasitea, take in the dark and moist air of early evening, and watch the infiltrating twigs of the Morning Glory with its purple flowers - a third purple shade so typical of Positano.

I am not including another purple shade, wisteria, in this blog post, this favorite of mine will be extensively covered in other postings.
